What is Trichomoniasis ?
It is the most widespread STI in the world with 143 million new cases per year according to the WHO, and which risks catching up with HIV! Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by a parasite. This is mostly very common in women who suffer from an increase in vaginal discharge which may smell bad and be yellow or green in color. Like some STDs and STIs, most infected people do not experience symptoms, which usually appear between 5 and 28 days after infection.
It is spread during sexual intercourse or by contact with a towel, glove or underwear used by an infected person. Namely, the germ can survive on wet surfaces such as towels, toilet seats, for hours. Despite everything, trichomoniasis remains benign. Rarely dangerous but often unpleasant.
The person carrying the virus may experience itching, vaginal discharge, burning sensations when urinating. Men, on the other hand, mainly feel burns when they urinate. Namely that men do not show symptoms in 90% of cases.
Since trichomonas is a parasite, there is no vaccine to protect against it. The only way to protect yourself during sex is with a condom. Trichomoniasis can be treated with antibiotics. Attention, during the treatment it is recommended not to consume alcohol and to wait 2 days after the end of the treatment to resume. For a total recovery, the partner must also follow an antibiotic treatment.
