How to drive safely on a two-wheeled engine ?

Two-wheeler drivers are about 20 times more likely to be killed on the road than motorists. In order for this terrible figure to decrease, everyone must take action and eventually change their behaviour if it is not good.

The safety of motorcyclists and scooter riders depends on many factors.

What are the safety problems encountered on two wheels?

There is the behaviour of two-wheelers themselves, but also that of other road users: motorists, truckers, pedestrians...

There is also the individual equipment: helmet, suit, gloves... That must be chosen respecting safety standards by avoiding second-hand products that have already been used and may be less effective.

And then there are the road structures: gravel pits, safety rails... which are not adapted to two-wheeled vehicles and are extremely dangerous in case of an accident.

In this video, we remind you of the rules to follow so as not to put yourself in danger on the road.

What is the recommended equipment to ride two-wheelers safely?

The equipment is essential. In addition to the helmet, boots and gloves, it is also advisable to wear an airbag vest. Note that airbags on the market are expensive: around 400 and 700 euros for better protection.

Being visible on the road is an additional safety for the biker: turn on your headlights and wear reflective strips.

A few safety reminders, obviously :

  • It is forbidden to use your phone while driving,
  • It is forbidden to drink alcohol,
  • Advised to sleep well, to be in good shape, before driving,
  • Recommended to take breaks every 2 hours.

Safety is one of the watchwords at BornSafety.com, many videos are available on the site. To learn more about safety with an electric two-wheeler, you can watch our video The safety of electric two-wheelers.
