What is Gonorrhea ?
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection that mainly affects the genital and urinary organs. It is more commonly called "gonorrhea" or "gonorrhea". Since the 2000s, the number of people affected has been increasing by 13% per year.
Gonorrhea can cause pain in the genitals, anus, rectum and throat.
Severe cases mainly affect women with pelvic inflammation, ectopic pregnancy, infertility, brain or heart infection.
Men, on the other hand, may suffer from benign prostate or testicular infections. However, men between the ages of 20 and 34 are still the most affected, three times more than women.
Normally, the disease is asymptomatic. However, if it is not, symptoms may appear 2 to 5 days after infection. In women, the effects may include abnormal vaginal discharge, pain in the lower abdomen and irritation of the vulva. For men, abnormal discharge and irritation of the penis. Burning sensations while urinating and pain in the throat and anus are notable symptoms.
Condoms are recommended to protect against gonorrhea. The consequences if the disease is not treated are infections of the genitals, the uterus, the prostate and can go as far as sterility. However, screening is simple to carry out, either via a smear (vaginal, oral, anal) or a urine test.
Gonorrhea can facilitate the transmission of HIV.
There is no vaccine against gonorrhea, but there are antibiotic treatments to which some strains are resistant.
