How to avoid scoliosis ?

Scoliosis is a disease that cannot be prevented, but it can be improved. Growth is the most sensitive period. The earlier scoliosis is detected, the better it is managed.

Here are some tips to help you avoid developing scoliosis:

  • Play sports limits the risks: strongly recommended to strengthen your back with swimming (reputation for being the most complete sport) or classical dance (rigor to stand up straight and stretch your necks)         
  • don't let back pain drag on         
  • watch your diet to avoid deficiencies: The spine is made up of vertebrae that require a diet rich in calcium and magnesium.         

The sitting position is at risk because it further deforms the vertebrae. It is therefore very important to always have good posture so as not to aggravate scoliosis.                

The condition of scoliosis can be improved by mechanical manipulations: physiotherapy, chiropractic, osteopathy.

Wearing a corset keeps the vertical spine straight. Be careful, the corset cannot prevent scoliosis, but it can help prevent it from getting worse in most cases.

For the most important scoliosis, 2 surgical operations exist:

  • Lock the spine in the correct position with metal rods and screws.
  • Gently reorient the column with a cable that does not prevent the flexibility of the back. This second method is the most recent.
